Sunny Anderson has an awesome blog post up right now about food styling and all the work that goes into making those "beauty shots" you see on Food Network.

I already knew about tips like spraying burgers and meat with oil to keep them looking juicy, and overlapping food pieces to make them look more natural. Using a vinegar and water solution to remove fingerprints from dishes is something new I learned.

But by far the most interesting (and kind of gross) tip is: to create fake steam in photos, use SANITARY NAPKINS!!!


"Use either a tampon or pad, soak it with water and then microwave it ... the steam that comes out of those babies is thick and long lasting, so you can click and change angles and click and change plates and still have steam."
