When I first saw that Sandra Lee was teaming up with Hidden Valley—you know, the makers of salad dressing—I thought I'd make a joke about it. But on second thought...and I can't believe I'm saying this...Sandra got it right!
The reason, you ask? Well, the times that I've chided Food Network stars for their endorsements (anyone remember the Sandra Lee rug collection?) it's typically been because the products chosen are so irrelevant to what makes them a "celebrity," as Sandra is noted in that logo there (Celebrity CHEF, too!).
The Paula Deen toaster— I suppose.
The Giada Pez Dispenser— maybe some day.
The Rachael CD is already here (no link needed for that).
But back to Sandra. She actually uses things like Ranch dressing and seasoning packets. And I have to admit, the PDF you can download, "A Girl's Guide to Surviving Game Day", has some good-sounding recipes. The recipes you'd expect on game day.
So, bravo to Sandra. You won this battle. That doesn't mean I can't joke about one of her tips, though:
"To help rev up fans, show spirit by decorating with team colors. Lee also suggests creating an unexpected tabletop twist by securing rolled up napkins with terrycloth sweatbands in team colors."
That would be unexpected. Get on that, men!
